Video: Encouraging Neighbors to Meet and Mingle

Learn about this winning project from a 2017 AARP Community Challenge grantee

LOCATION: Philadelphia, Pennslyvania
GRANTEE: Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation

The challenge grant funds were used to launch the Chinatown Garden Club, run weekly painting classes and host an art exhibition of works created by community members. Among the goals of the "Go, Go, Go: Making Our Community More Livable" project was to encourage people of all ages to interact and enable residents to build friendships in a linguistically and culturally accessible way. One out of five Chinatown residents is an older adult and nearly 90 percent of those individuals have limited English proficiency.

  • The AARP Community Challenge funds “quick-action” projects that build momentum for local change to improve livability for people of all ages.
