Celebrating 50 Years of Impact

LCE’s 50th Anniversary Campaign Committee

In 2025, Legal Counsel for the Elderly is celebrating 50 years of improving lives for older adults across DC. Thanks to the support of the DC community, tens of thousands of people have benefited from more stable housing, increased economic security, control of their future, and reliable health and safety supports.

50th Anniversary Jubilee

On November 6, 2025, nearly 400 people gathered at the International Spy Museum to celebrate Legal Counsel for the Elderly’s 50-year milestone. The evening featured powerful reflections from Executive Director Rhonda Cunningham Holmes, members of LCE’s Board, AARP CEO Myechia Minter-Jordan, and Oscar-nominated writer, director, and producer Lee Daniels. To see more photos from the event, visit our 50th Anniversary Gallery!

We also debuted four new videos that provide insights into LCE’s history and impact. You can watch our videos on YouTube — perfect for sharing with your networks:

  • A congratulations video from some of our top sponsors.
  • The story of LCE’s 50-year history
  • A spotlight on Social Security Disability Insurance
  • A spotlight on our work with residents impacted by the fire at Arthur Capper Senior Apartments

Thank You to our Colleagues at AARP

We’re so grateful for AARP’s support – both for their presenting sponsorship of our Jubilee and for the generosity of so many AARP employees. As a token of our thanks, on Thursday, December 11 from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM, LCE staff will be in the AARP Café Overflow space, offering sweet treats and a trivia game that provides you the chance to win prizes.

50th Anniversary Campaign

Our 50th Anniversary Jubilee was the celebratory highlight of our three-year campaign to raise $1 million from individual donors in support of LCE’s growing impact on DC’s older adults. Led by a Campaign Committee composed of LCE’s Board of Directors, Advisory Committee, Young Lawyers Alliance, and dedicated supporters, this campaign is strengthening relationships with current donors and securing 1,000 new donors who share our vision for the future. Our campaign theme, Defend. Protect. Empower., reflects the heart of LCE’s mission and the work we are committed to advancing for the next 50 years.

During our campaign, all first-time donations to LCE are being matched, dollar for dollar, up to $200,000, thanks to committed supporters. You can donate to our campaign at any time by clicking here.
