It all began “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” … and with this May marking the 45th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, plus the recent debut of the second season of Disney+’s Andor — a prequel of sorts to the original 1977 Star Wars blockbuster that got this whole thing started — we figured it was a good time to test your knowledge of the iconic Star Wars franchise.

Let the Force flow through you and see how well you remember the galactic dramas surrounding Luke (Mark Hamill, 73), Leia (Carrie Fisher), Han Solo (Harrison Ford, 82), Rey (Daisy Ridley), Baby Yoda and more.

Question 1 of 10

In which movie did Princess Leia wear the infamous gold bikini?

princess leia
Lucasfilm Ltd./Everett Collection

Leia Organa was captured by Jabba the Hutt while trying to rescue Han Solo, and was forced to wear the metal two-piece as part of his harem in the third film, Return of the Jedi. The outfit was so iconic that Friends even had an episode where Ross fantasizes about Rachel wearing it.

Question 2 of 10

What was Obi-Wan Kenobi’s relationship to Luke Skywalker?

a scene from the return of the jedi
Mary Evans/LUCASFILM/Ronald Grant/Everett Collection

Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor, 54, in the prequels, and Alec Guinness in the original trilogy) was the Jedi Master who trained Anakin Skywalker, who ultimately switched allegiances and joined the Dark Side. After Anakin’s killing spree at the Jedi temple, the two engaged in a lightsaber battle that left Anakin legless and presumably dead. When Anakin’s wife, Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), died after giving birth to twins, Obi-Wan took newborn Luke to Tatooine to be raised by Luke’s step-uncle and his wife, and Obi-Wan took up residence nearby to keep an eye on him. Nearly 20 years later, Obi-Wan reveals his true identity to Luke in Episode IV: A New Hope.

Question 3 of 10

Luke Skywalker lost which body part in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back?

Luke lost his right hand in a lightsaber duel with Darth Vader (voiced by James Earl Jones), who was trying to recruit him to the Dark Side. A few minutes later, Vader told him that he was his real father. So it wasn’t a great day for our boy Luke.

Darth Vader planned to freeze Luke Skywalker in carbonite in order to get him to Emperor Palpatine — but wanted to do a test run first. So he decided to use Han Solo as the guinea pig. Once it was confirmed he was alive and in hibernation, Vader turned Solo over to bounty hunter Boba Fett, who’d been hired to bring him to Jabba the Hutt, to whom he owed money.

Question 5 of 10

Who didn’t R2-D2 work for over the course of the nine films?

r two d two
Lucasfilm Ltd./Everett Collection

In the prequels, R2-D2 started out working for Queen Amidala, and later her husband, Anakin Skywalker. In the original films, he served their son, Luke Skywalker. And in the final three movies, he helped Rey locate Luke. In a way, R2 was the Forrest Gump of Star Wars history, being present for many pivotal moments. He saved just about everyone’s bacon at one time or another, and he helped destroy the Death Star. He was also a bit of a sass mouth who deftly dealt insults in the form of beeps and boops.

Question 6 of 10

What was the name of the short furry creatures introduced in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi?

return of the jedi movie
Everett Collection

Ewoks, whose faces bore more than a passing resemblance to Brussels griffon dogs, were a native species on the forest moon of Endor, the site of a major battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. Since the Empire had occupied their land and used it to protect the Death Star, the Ewoks aided the Alliance in hopes of liberating their home. But while Star Wars creator George Lucas, 80, portrayed the Ewoks as savvy guerrilla warriors, cynical adult Star Wars fans saw the goofy creatures as a shameless ploy to attract little kids. As Hurley (Jorge Garcia, 52) put it once in the Lost episode “Some Like It Hoth”: “Ewoks suck, dude.”

Question 7 of 10

In Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker, Rey was revealed to be the granddaughter of which character from the original trilogy?

rey
Jonathan Olley/Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures/Lucasfilm/Everett Collection

Though she took the surname Skywalker, Rey is actually a descendant of Emperor Palpatine. Her father, Dathan Sidious, was the genetically engineered son of Palpatine, a.k.a. Sith Lord Darth Sidious; however, he was not Force-sensitive and thus deemed a failed experiment. A resentful Dathan renounced the Sith and moved to Jakku, where he and his wife hid out and posed as junk traders to protect their daughter, who was strong with the Force, from her grandfather’s followers. After stashing Rey with their boss they tried to flee the planet, but they were captured and killed before they could escape.

Question 8 of 10

What is Kylo Ren’s real name?

kylo ren
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures/Lucasfilm/Everett Collection

Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) was born Ben Solo, the son of Princess Leia and Han Solo. He’s named for Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, who went by the alias Ben while watching over the young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. Leia sensed while she was pregnant that her unborn child had both the Light and Dark Side in him. This makes total sense, given that his maternal grandfather was Anakin Skywalker, a.k.a. Darth Vader. But his parents kept this information from him. Unbeknownst to them, members of the Sith could communicate with Ben telepathically, and eventually drew him down the path to the Dark Side. Although his Uncle Luke was preparing him to become a Jedi, Ben pulled a Vader and destroyed the training temple.

Question 9 of 10

In The Mandalorian he’s often referred to as “the Child,” and fans have taken to calling him Baby Yoda, but what is this breakout character’s actual name?

baby yoda
Disney+/Lucasfilm/Everett Collection

Grogu, a Force-sensitive youngster who is the same species as Yoda, was raised at the Jedi temple on Coruscant and survived the massacre carried out by Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. He was rescued by a Mandalorian bounty hunter (Pedro Pascal, 50), who was supposed to eliminate him but objected after seeing how young Grogu was. The Mandalorian later handed him over to Jedi Master Luke Skywalker to resume his Jedi training. However, when Skywalker asked him to choose between life as a Jedi and returning to the Mandalorian, Grogu chose his friend in the helmet.

Question 10 of 10

Mandalorians often use which line?

“This is the way” refers to the right way of doing things, according to the Mandalorian moral code. The expression was quickly adopted into pop culture, and if you visit any random advice forum on Reddit, odds are you’ll see someone quoting it as a way of saying “do what this other user suggested.”
