Brush Up on Your Driving Skills

Did you know that you can save ten percent on your auto insurance just by taking an AARP Driver Safety course?

If you are 55 years or older, and take an approved Driver Safety class, Minnesota law requires insurance companies to offer you a 10% reduction for three years. This could be as much as $40 or more per year of savings.

The course is designed to help make you more aware of safety considerations of the roads that you travel every day. You can expect to learn current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment. You'll learn adjustments to accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time.

“Our goal is to make Minnesota drivers aware of potential dangers and blind spots on the road,” said Bill Adams, Minnesota State Coordinator of the Driver Safety Program. “Awareness increases confidence – and confident drivers are safer drivers.”

This course is two 4-hr. classroom sessions. It includes a video, workbook, and class discussion. There is no driving during the class – and no tests.

Once you have completed the initial Driver Safety class your three years is up, you can then take a 4-hour Refresher Course to continue to get your 10% discount.

This discount is not offered in every state – Minnesotans should take advantage of this savings!

Locate a classroom course. Course times, dates and locations will be listed along with a phone number to call to register for the course. Or call, toll-free, 1-888-AARP-NOW (1-888-227-7669).

You can also call the AARP Information Center at the Mall of America for information about Drivers Safety classes in the metro area. Helpful volunteers will provide you with information about upcoming courses and how to register. Call 952-858-9040.
