How do I broach the topic about driver safety with my aging parents?

En español | When driving safety is not an immediate concern, have conversations about driving just to lay the foundation. You can use weather reports about road conditions, news of an accident or word of someone else giving up driving as a way to talk about traffic, errands or the expense of having a car.

Use your observations to help build consensus with family members. Start by acknowledging their feelings and showing that you understand what driving, and its loss, may mean to them. Share what you’ve observed, express your concern, and be prepared for it to take several conversations before you agree on a solution. If you have explored alternative transportation, suggest options to make the transition easier.
