“Volunteering for AARP Maryland keeps me alive. It helps you be a better person; it helps your to learn and network. It’s like a family. What is your niche? What do you like to do? AARP has an opportunity for you.”
“I took an AARP Driver Safety course in 2012. I enjoyed it so much that when I learned the course needed Instructors, I signed up. I thought, with my experience in teaching, I can do that. Plus, leading Smart Driver courses is a good way to give back to the community; the whole purpose of the course is to save lives.”
“When I see [participants’] eyes light up or they’re nodding their heads in agreement [to something I said] that to me is very fulfilling. I have shared something with these folks that they would not have otherwise heard or learned [that] will help make their driving experience better and keep them and other folks on the road alive and well and safe.”
*All AARP Driver Safety volunteer positions are unpaid. However, volunteers are reimbursed for approved, program-related, out-of-pocket expenses, such as mileage and postage.
