
Jim Pettit is Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Overseas Citizens Services within the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs. Previously, Pettit served in senior-level positions at the U.S. Embassies in Kiev, Ukraine; Moscow, Russia; and Vienna, Austria. In Washington, D.C., he previously served within the Visa Services Directorate, the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, the Taiwan Coordination Office and the Office of Cuban Affairs.
Pettit speaks Russian, Spanish, German and Mandarin Chinese. He earned a bachelor’s degree in international studies and Russian from Iowa State University and a master’s in national strategic studies from the National War College.
