Charles Mattocks, also known as The Poor Chef, was inspired early in life by his uncle, the late Bob Marley, to be a performer. After playing the title role in the Emmy-nominated The Summer of Ben Tyler, Mattocks could have continued as a successful actor. Instead, this single dad moved across the country after deciding that the Hollywood lifestyle was not appropriate for his young son. He began creating meals that were flavorful, nutritious and affordable and wrote Eat Cheap but Eat Well. He has shared ideas for affordable meals on morning TV programs, The Doctor Oz Show and other national television programs.
Since being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, Mattocks has worked to make people more aware of the disease, in part through The Diabetic You documentary and website.
