NRTA and Curriki: Sharing Lesson Plans That Work

NRTA: AARP’s Educator Community has joined forces with Curriki, a nonprofit open-source curriculum repository, to bring high-quality learning resources to students around the world. Curriki makes it easy for active and retired educators to contribute educational tools and resources that NRTA can share with teachers and students—all at no cost!

Join this new Online Community to share lesson plans that work!

AARP's educator-members will help develop Curriki's collection of high-quality content. Educators will vet and screen the submissions for accuracy and appropriateness for use. Available now are lesson plans, assessments, media clips, and even complete textbooks, all available at no cost. These kinds of resources support teachers, schools, and students worldwide.

Originally founded by Sun Microsystems, Curriki is now an independent nonprofit. The collaboration between Curriki and AARP will bring together educators who are subject-matter experts. These teachers will share their curricula, review the content, and help train other teachers. By working closely with experts in the United States and abroad, the collaboration ensures that the Curriki resources and materials will meet educational standards in each country. And the collaboration's activities support the challenging United Nations Millennium goal of guaranteeing every child in the world an education by 2015.

About NRTA: AARP's Educator Community

Founded in 1947 by retired educator Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, NRTA, a division of AARP, is the largest national organization that represents the interests of educators age 50+. NRTA’s membership includes more than 1 million active and retired K–12 teachers, education experts, and school personnel at the local, state, and national levels. These people share a commitment to learning, voluntary service, and civic participation. The NRTA network includes a national office in Washington, D.C., 52 state and city associations, and more than 2,700 local associations. NRTA members are dedicated to continuous educational opportunity, advocacy, and service as a means of safeguarding the economic security, work opportunities, and future well-being of all generations.
