Help Those In Need Get Their Taxes Done For Free

With the help of people like you, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax assistance to those who need it most. We’re looking for friendly individuals to join us for the upcoming tax season. You’ll receive training and support, learn new skills and feel great while helping others. We need volunteers who can work virtually and/or in person.

As a volunteer, you can:

Help Prepare Tax Returns
Work directly with taxpayers to help them prepare their tax returns.

Organize & Support
Greet people, provide tech support, help organize, recruit volunteers, translate and more.

Join a Community
Become part of a family of 35,000-plus volunteers who truly care about their communities.

Volunteer Roles

Please note: AARP Foundation Tax-Aide service is offered nationwide either in-person or virtually based on location, pandemic spread, and volunteer availability. Please explore these virtual or in-person opportunities to make a difference and volunteer safely.


Client Facilitator

Program: Tax-Aide

(In-Person or Virtually)

You will help older taxpayers feel welcome and at ease by greeting them, gathering and organizing their paperwork, and describing the tax prep process. Help ease the stress of tax season for low-income people who are 50-plus. Experience is not necessary; we will provide training and IRS certification.

Requirements:

  • Be detail-oriented
  • Must attend 20 hours of provided training (held between September and January)

Time/Frequency:

  • At least four hours per week during tax season

Tax Counselor

Program: Tax-Aide

(In-Person or Virtually)

Help low- to moderate-income 50-plus adults to prepare and file their tax returns online, providing them with deductions they may have missed and the refunds they deserve. Your assistance will help relieve the burden and stress of their doing their own taxes. Experience is not necessary; we will provide training and IRS certification.

Requirements:

  • Detail oriented
  • Must attend 20 hours of provided training (held between September and January)
  • Be comfortable with technology

Time/Frequency:

  • At least 4 hours per week during tax season
