AARP ElderWatch engages volunteers in Colorado to help older consumers protect themselves by recognizing, refusing and reporting fraud, scams and identity theft. Be a fraud fighter and help stop the exploitation of the older Coloradans.

As a volunteer, you can:

Volunteer Roles


ElderWatch Helpline Volunteer

Be a crime fighter! Protect older adults from falling victim to fraud, provide information about the latest scams, and take reports of fraudulent activities via our helpline. You’ll learn how criminals are targeting vulnerable populations, empower 50-plus individuals to protect themselves, and provide compassion and assistance to those who have been victimized.

Requirements:

  • Handle reports of fraud/scams with professionalism, respect and empathy and make appropriate referrals
  • Listen and take accurate reports of elder fraud through computer data entry
  • Extensive initial and on-going training and a background check are required

Time/Frequency:

  • The helpline handles calls Monday – Friday from 9am-5pm MT
  • Days are divided into four 2-hour shift
  • Volunteers are asked to sign up for at least 1 or 2 shifts/week
  • Volunteer trainings are typically offered on a quarterly basis
