Sharron

FROM WASHINGTON

My name is Sharron. I have been taking care of my mother Wanda for six months. I moved in with her back in May right after she had her stroke. It affected the left side of her body and her speech. Sometimes it's hard making out what she's saying but I'm getting a lot better. I have never had a lot of experience as a caregiver. I have never been married or have ever had children but I am learning. My mom has always been there for me, my sister and brother. That's why without hesitation I moved in with her. My other siblings have a family, a busy work life and kids at home so when my sister Sharlet asked if I could do it I agreed and I'm glad I did because the other option would have been her going to a nursing home and I wasn't comfortable with that. I know Mom wouldn't be happy.
