FROM CALIFORNIA

I started taking care of my dad, Clarence, this past year. He fell and broke his hip and the full rehabilitation was too much for him at his age, so he spends most of his time in a wheelchair. Me and my brother try to split responsibilities, as we both work full time and have families of our own. I come over and take care of the yard, prep his medicines for the week and take him to run his errands. I always try to keep my attitude up, even in my most exhausted state because I know that no parent ever wants their child to have to take care of them. He has done so much for our family over the years. His favorite hobby has always been fishing, I remember him taking me and my brother when we were little. I think after his fall, he thought he would never be able to fish again. Well I couldn't set back and let that happen, so when the weather and my schedule permits, we load up and head to the pond. It's refreshing for both of us, and always takes me back to my childhood. Fresh air, the water, birds and bugs chirping, and my dad. Even in his wheelchair, looking at him with a fishing pole in his hand and a smile on his face makes it seem as if nothing has changed.
