Understanding the health care law, one piece at a time.
We can keep our daughter on our insurance until she's 26.
If your plan covers children, you can now add or keep your children on your health insurance policy until they turn 26 years old.
Young adults who don't have access to an employer health plan can now stay on a parent's health insurance policy until they turn 26, even if they are married or don't live at home. Previously, most insurance plans kicked young adults off family policies when they turned 18, or soon after college graduation.
Your children can join or remain on your plan even if they are:
- Not living with you
- Attending school
- Not financially dependent on you
