Tennessee Tax Reform for Long-Term Care: An AARP Survey

AARP Member Opinion Research

Findings from this survey show that over four in five Tennessee AARP members support legislation to improve the quality of nursing home care and increase the availability of home and community-based long-term care. Approximately two-thirds support total tax reform as a way to improve and expand long-term care services in the state. Total tax reform would lower the sales tax rate, eliminate the tax on dividend and interest income, and replace the current tax system with a broad-based low-rate tax on personal income. Seven in ten AARP members are opposed to a sales tax increase.

Between December 13 and 20, 2001, Woelfel Research conducted telephone interviews with a random sample of 805 AARP members in Tennessee with known telephone numbers. The report was prepared by Joanne Binette of AARP Knowledge Management; for further information, please, contact her at 202/434-6303 or jbinette@aarp.org. (14 pages)
