Volunteers Gathering Pledges and Testimonials for Divided We Fail Campaign

About 30 volunteers and staff from all over Arkansas got revved up and ready to share the Divided We Fail message with their neighbors, family and friends at about 34 public and private outreach events this year. A complete listing of outreach events is online.
Each AARP hub leader or their designee now has a variety of printed handouts and display material for volunteers to use when explaining the campaign and gathering pledges and testimonials at the outreach events. To recommend a possible outreach venue where AARP can ask large numbers of Arkansans to become Divided We Fail voters, call Susan Kuehner, Associate State Director for Community Outreach, at 1-866-554-5379.
When you sign the Divided We Fail pledge, you become a Divided We Fail voter who will:
- Vote for candidates who will ensure that all Americans have access to affordable, quality health care.
- Vote for candidates who will ensure that all Americans have peace of mind about their long-term financial security — with a real plan of action, and a real commitment to the American people.
- Vote for candidates who are specific about what they'll do and how, and who stop speaking in generalities.
When you share a story about the challenges of getting quality health care that is affordable or about difficulty attaining financial security, it will be added to the stories from millions of others to create "Millions of Voices for Change." AARP will share these stories with the media and public officials to raise awareness about these important issues. AARP will amplify the voice of the people to urge candidates and elected officials to find solutions to the problems that exist in these areas.
The schedule of outreach events was developed during a successful issue briefing and message training at the state office on May 14 and 15. The training session included a series of exercises in which volunteers learned about and practiced explaining the Divided We Fail campaign with others. It also included a review of video of the volunteers using the messages during role playing, which helped them hone their presentation and media interview skills.
