Serve In a New Way and Bring Dignity to Those In Nursing Homes

Many of us have experienced the challenge faced when a relative or friend becomes a nursing home resident. It's a learning process to know what services to expect, how to resolve problems and who to turn to when a problem or situation isn't resolved.

Are you concerned about the quality of nursing home services in your community?

Do you wish you could do something to improve the lives of vulnerable nursing home residents?

Consider becoming a Quality Issues Specialist Volunteer (QIS), the eyes and ears of the Utah Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program. The time commitment is two to four hours a week visiting an assigned nursing home and observing the care that is provided.

Volunteers determine their own schedule for the visits to their assigned nursing homes.

QIS volunteers are rewarded with the knowledge that they make a difference in the quality of life for residents in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. Their advocacy can help contribute to more contented and meaningful lives for the nursing home residents in Utah.

AARP Utah and the Utah Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program are offering eight hours of QIS training to prepare individuals to volunteer in nursing homes. Each QIS volunteer will also receive ongoing support and assistance from their local program administrator.

To apply to become a QIS volunteer complete the online application.
