Make a Difference. Volunteer with AARP District of Columbia

Are you a District resident committed to improving the experience of aging in our city? Are you looking for ways to use your knowledge, hone your skills and meet interesting people—all while making a positive difference? If so, one of the below volunteer positions may be a perfect match for you.

AARP DC Advocacy Volunteer

• Focus on issues such as health care, prescription drug access, and economic security among others
• Educate Council members and their staff on AARP DC priorities and concerns
• Track and influence important legislation moving through the City Council by attending hearings and using the internet
• Advocacy Volunteers must have an active email account

AARP DC Ambassador Volunteer

• Represent AARP at community events as a presenter and/or exhibitor
• Inform members and general public about AARP programs, issues and publications
• Provide feedback to AARP staff and volunteer leadership on issues concerning members

AARP DC Divided We Fail (DWF) Volunteer

• Engage District residents in a dialogue around urgent issues of health and long-term financial security
• Attend special events to sign-up DWF voters
• Collect stories of DC residents impacted by these issues
• Educate District leaders on the principles of DWF

Administrative Volunteer

• Assemble AARP materials for events
• Conduct mass mailings
• Place calls to additional volunteers and member
• Assist Program Assistant with the maintenance of the file room

All AARP District of Columbia volunteers should be District residents. Advocacy, Ambassador and Divided We Fail volunteers should be comfortable speaking in public.
