AARP members have "the power to make it better" through our advocacy information and service. Whether you have a little time or a lot, there is a volunteer position for you. Get involved, here are some of the ways you can make a difference.
Advocacy Volunteers
(State Legislative Committee, Grassroots Volunteers)
AARP State Legislative Advocacy Volunteers play an important role, supporting the interest of our 1.6 million members in Springfield and Washington. Advocacy volunteers talk to legislators, implement grassroots advocacy tactics, and work on issue and voter education. The AARP Illinois State Legislative Agenda for 2007 and federal advocacy provide a window into key issues.
Communications Volunteers
Communications Volunteers' efforts will (1) provide support to all AARP Illinois advocacy and community service endeavors and (2) help build AARP Illinois as a resource for information on aging issues. Communications Volunteers use their local contacts to work with the Communications staff person in pitching stories to the media and educate the public on key AARP programs and services.
Community Service and Episodic Volunteers
Illinois communities are strengthened and problems are solved with the help of community service volunteers. Whether an ongoing commitment or one day of service, there are a host of volunteer opportunities, from special events and AARP's national service programs Tax-Aide and Driver Safety Program to coordinating Chapter activities and our annual Day of Service, your involvement is welcome.
