Successful 2002 for AARP Delaware Volunteers

AARP Delaware's volunteers were both busy and successful in 2002.

In advocacy, their red-capped efforts encouraged the Delaware General Assembly to preserve the quality of care for Delaware's 5,000 nursing home residents. They celebrated the launch of House Bill 84's Money Management Program — as the dream to provide budgetary support to Delaware's low-income and disabled seniors became a reality. And, AARP's voter awareness efforts for Election 2002 encouraged Delawareans 50+ to become better informed and make a difference at the polls.

In serving our communities, AARP Delaware's Day of Service volunteers helped the veterans of Milford's Home of the Brave feel a little more at home. Community Service Lead Volunteer Georgie Calabrese captured AARP's top volunteer honors taking home the prestigious 2002 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service. Led by AARP Delaware, a coalition of Delaware's top companies, non-profits and governmental agencies staged the state's first caregiving conference. Then to wrap up their successful year, AARP Delaware volunteers were treated to a Holiday Open House at the AARP Delaware State Office overlooking Rodney Square in downtown Wilmington.

"It has been a banner year for AARP Delaware's volunteers," according to State Director Jan Robinson. "Our 139,000 AARP members throughout the state have been well served by those devoting their time and energy on their behalf."
