Want to Make a Difference? Become an AARP DC Volunteer

Volunteers have played an integral role throughout AARP since the Association's inception. We know that it is important that the volunteer opportunities we offer in the District of Columbia not only continue to support AARP's mission and strategic imperatives - but also provide meaningful, fulfilling opportunities to those who serve in our volunteer roles. But, the scope is even larger. Through your volunteer involvement in our advocacy and community service efforts, you can help support AARP's vision to become a vital presence in every community throughout the District.

Advocacy Volunteers

Would you like to meet people, learn new skills and use your knowledge - all the while helping older Washingtonians? Consider applying for AARP DC's Advocacy Team. You do not need to be an expert to apply. We are looking for volunteers with an interest in developing expertise on one of our priority issues and lobbying the District Council. We are also seeking volunteers to track District Council legislation and DC government regulatory actions related to our priorities (either from the AARP DC office or your home computer) and report monthly to other volunteers and staff. For more information, contact Legislative Affairs and Advocacy Director Louis C. Davis, Jr. at (202) 434-7712 or via email.

Ambassador Volunteers

Do you enjoy participating in community events and sharing information? Why not help AARP DC get the word out about our many programs and benefits? Become an AARP DC Ambassador. Ambassadors staff booths at community fairs and other events. Some also choose to speak about the Association to small groups. It's a wonderful opportunity to meet new people - and to let older DC residents know about all that AARP has to offer. To learn more, contact Associate Director Carol Page at (202)434-7703 or cpage@aarp.org.

Office Volunteers

Do you enjoy volunteering in an office environment? If so, AARP DC could use your help with mailings, clipping or other office work. Contact Senior Office Administrator Vanessa Woodard-Kinard at (202)434-7701 or vwoodard@aarp.org.
