1 in 3 Older Adults Struggle to Meet Their Basic Needs

Today, rising costs, complex benefit systems, and changing job and financial markets make it harder to stay secure as we age. That’s why AARP Foundation is the nation’s leading organization serving older adults living in poverty or one life event away from slipping into it.

Our Vision

A society free of poverty where each of us ages with the opportunity to thrive.

Our Mission

To strengthen financial resilience for and with older adults by empowering individuals and improving systems.

Our Priorities: Empowering Individuals and Improving Systems

AARP Foundation’s 2030 Strategy focuses on three interconnected priorities that address the root causes of senior poverty. Together, these priorities strengthen financial resilience today while driving systems improvements that will benefit future generations.

Quality Employment

We create pathways to good, stable jobs by helping older adults return to work and stay employed. At the same time, we work to improve employment systems by advancing ageinclusive practices and challenging discrimination. Learn more about how we empower older workers.

Accessible Benefits

We make it easier for older adults to learn about and access the financial relief they’ve earned — and we work to improve benefit systems, so they function better for the people who rely on them.

Inclusive Markets

We promote fair access to essential goods and services by helping older adults make informed choices and by improving how markets serve people with low income.

Our Impact

Through approaches designed for scale and lasting change, AARP Foundation helps older adults build financial stability. Here’s what we accomplished in 2025 alone:

  • 1,151,181 older adults with low income served
  • $1,029,196,744 secured in income, benefits, tax refunds, and credits
  • 29,477 dedicated volunteers powering our work nationwide

Accountability

AARP Foundation earns a high rating for accountability from a leading charity evaluator.

Seventy-eight cents of every dollar we spend goes toward programs and services that help older adults with low income. We have met every one of the Better Business Bureau’s 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
