Volunteering Can Make a Difference in a Child's Life

AARP Foundation Experience Corps is a proven program made up of volunteers who are dedicated to helping children become great readers before completing third grade. Working collaboratively with teachers and other volunteers, you can change the course of a child's life by sharing your wisdom and experience. Our goal is to improve children's literacy, strengthen our communities, and help develop cultures of inspiration in our schools and support our hardworking teachers. Our volunteers have already changed the lives of thousands of children in schools across America. With your help, we can do even more.

What it Takes to Volunteer

50 or older
High school diploma or GED (minimum)
Pass a criminal background check
Pass a basic literacy screening
Attend 25 hours of annual training
Five - 15 hours a week during the school year

AARP Foundation Experience Corps Cities

AARP Foundation Experience Corps is an intergenerational volunteer-based tutoring program that is proven to help children who aren’t reading at grade level become great readers by the end of third grade. We inspire and empower adults 50 and older to serve in their community and disrupt the cycle of poverty by making a lasting difference in the lives of America’s most vulnerable children.
