Being a family caregiver is hard work — and it can also put a strain on your finances. But for some family caregivers, financial help is available.

Can I get paid?

Millions of family caregivers like you are stretching their budgets to the limit, whether they’re paying for medications, home modifications or everyday essentials.

But in some states and in certain situations, you may be able to get paid for your time.

The AARP Foundation Paid4Care™ hub helps you figure out whether you’re eligible to get paid as a family caregiver.

Am I eligible?

Every state has different rules and requirements. In some states, family caregivers have to become certified in certain skills before they can be paid. Your chances of getting paid are best if you’re caring for a U.S. military veteran or for someone who qualifies for Medicaid, but there are other possibilities, too.

On the AARP Foundation Paid4Care hub, you can:

  • Search for programs in your state that might help you to get paid
  • Explore whether becoming a paid family caregiver is right for you
  • Develop skills that could help you qualify to be paid in your state

Take steps to learn if you can get paid. Visit the AARP Foundation Paid4Care™ hub.
