Ellie Hollander is the first Chief People Officer in AARP's history. She has served in this capacity since 2002, overseeing AARP's People Strategy, a focused and integrated journey to drive organizational performance through a highly engaged workforce. She is a member of AARP's Executive Team, providing leadership and strategic direction to AARP and its affiliates. She has direct responsibility for AARP's People Strategy Group which includes Human Resources, Organizational Learning & Performance and the People Strategy Office, a group which is collectively responsible for programs that serve an employee base of nearly 2,500.

She has elevated the importance of employee engagement as a driver of organizational performance, making "People" a category unto itself on AARP's annual organizational Dashboard. Through her efforts over the past five years, she has been able to produce significant and demonstrable results which far exceed the national average on factors such as employee engagement.

As Chief People Officer, Ellie's role requires her to be a leader among leaders -- ensuring that AARP, as an organization, "walks the talk" as a Best Employer for workers over 50. AARP promotes innovative policies and practices that address aging workforce issues, creating models for other employers around the country. Accordingly, Ellie oversees the development and implementation of cutting-edge programs which provide a national blueprint ensuring that the work environment supports and encourages best practices and best performance.

Prior to joining AARP, Ellie spent 23 years in the energy industry: as Director of Marketing for EPRI, a not-for-profit energy Research & Development membership organization; as Executive Vice President for CMC Energy Services; and as the Managing Director of Marketing and Communications for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

Ellie is a Duke University graduate who double-majored in Economics and French. Her most recent honor was being selected by Washington Business Journal as one of the 2007 Women Who Mean Business.
