Jo Ann Jenkins Appointed AARP Chief Operating Officer

WASHINGTON AARP’s CEO A. Barry Rand today announced he has appointed Jo Ann Jenkins as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Jenkins currently serves as President of AARP Foundation. She also is a member of the AARP Executive Team.  She will begin her new role as AARP Chief Operating Officer on March 1, 2013.  Jenkins will continue to serve as President of AARP Foundation.

“I have every confidence that Jo Ann’s demonstrated commitment to operational excellence and solid management expertise will help guide AARP’s efforts to enhance and effectively carry out its mission,” said Rand. “Jo Ann brings a unique set of skills and experiences to the job. Her strategic insight and direct and collaborative style are great assets to both AARP and the members we serve.”

Jenkins, a proven innovator, joined AARP Foundation in 2010 and has led the organization’s far-reaching development and social impact initiatives including Drive to End Hunger, a national effort by AARP and AARP Foundation to help the millions of older Americans who struggle with hunger every day. Also, under her leadership, the Foundation’s overall donor base increased by 90 percent over two years.

“Throughout my professional career, I have focused on making meaningful contributions, setting clear, attainable goals and inspiring others,” said Jenkins. “I look forward to expanding my work at AARP and collaborating with our leadership to maximize our mission, foster creativity across the organization and strengthen our commitment to social good.”

With more than 25 years of extensive leadership, management, planning and business experience, Jenkins is well known in philanthropic, public and private sectors. Before joining AARP Foundation, Jenkins served as Chief Operating Officer at the Library of Congress. In that role she managed a staff of more than 4,000 and had full responsibility for the Library’s day-to-day operations including planning, reviewing, monitoring and directing the Library’s programmatic goals.
