Can I collect my survivor benefit at 60 and delay claiming my own benefit until my full retirement age, even if my benefit would be larger?

En español | Yes, you can collect your survivor benefit and allow your own benefit to continue to grow, until full retirement age or past it. Unlike with spouse benefits, when you apply for widow or widower benefits, you are not required to simultaneously file for retirement benefits. Thus, claiming a survivor benefit will have no effect on your retirement benefit.
