Q. I am getting way too many catalogs in the mail. They’re filling up the mailbox so that important mail gets lost in the clutter. Not to mention the waste of paper. How can I stop this barrage?
A. Consider Catalog Choice, which can help you pare down your list of catalogs. After signing up for a free account, you choose from an alphabetical list, and Catalog Choice then contacts those companies. Removing your name from their mailing lists can take up to 10 weeks.
For other types of unsolicited mailings, set up your opt-out preferences with the Direct Marketing Association, whose members include the vast majority of companies sending junk mail.
The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse offers what may be the most comprehensive list of opt-out opportunities and instructions.
