The stock market is up and interest rates are down, but for many Washingtonians the effects of the recession are far from over. Consumers continue to feel battered and overwhelmed by record unemployment, dwindling retirement accounts, scams and schemes, and an increasingly aggressive marketplace vying for our hard earned money.

However, with careful planning and the right tools, you can take control of your financial future and wellbeing. AARP has joined forces with some of the state’s leading consumer advocates and experts to help you survive and thrive in today’s economy.

Join us for a series of free public events and learn how to spend less, save more, and outwit the latest scams and schemes. Also hear about the latest in brain science, and learn what simple steps you can take to boost your brain health and keep your memory sharp as a tack.

Sign-up now to attend a free “Money Smarts” event and hear from the experts with AARP, the Attorney General’s Office, Microsoft, the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, the Stanford Center for Longevity, the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Financial Institutions, KCTS 9, the Social Security Administration, the Utilities and Transportation Commission and the Washington State Crime Prevention Association. Events are planned from 9:00am – 2:00pm in Seattle on April 21, Tri-Cities on May 26, Spokane on June 16, and Lacey on July 21.

Participants will receive free educational materials, and will leave with the latest tips and advice straight from the experts. Lunch is also provided. Register now by clicking on the online links below or call toll-free 1-877-926-8300. Space is limited and registration is required, so reserve your seat today.
