Fitness Follows Function

What is functional fitness? A body conditioned to easily perform daily activities and defy aging, says AARP Health and Fitness Ambassador Martina Navratilova.

How do you get such a body? Functional fitness-focused exercises. In this video, Martina demos some of these exercises, such as the squat, with the help of AARP: The Magazine's fitness editor, Gabi Redford.

Add these exercises to your own fitness program, advises Martina, to: 

 

  • Improve balance.
  • Enhance posture.
  • Boost stamina.
  • Enhance core muscles in the torso.
