How to Get AEDs in Your Community

• Lobby for the devices. Get a champion—a local politician, fire chief or EMS director—to speak out in support of an AED program.
• Get a lead organization, such as an EMS or a medical director, to run your program professionally.
• Seek out a good training program for the community, such as those offered by the National Safety Council, American Heart Association or the Red Cross.
• Don't let money become an issue. Various donations, grants and other public financing are available. Private businesses often see both the lifesaving and public relations value of having AEDs ready for action and may provide financial support.
