When you bought your first home, a lot of thought and planning probably went into it.  The same thought and planning needs to be done if you want to stay in your home for as long as possible.  Often times this will involve making changes or home modifications that can help you live more comfortably and safely.  These design changes can range from easy and simple to more complex.

A Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) can assist you with planning and making changes to your home that can help you continue to live there.  CAPS professionals have the answers to many of your housing questions and problems.  They have been taught the strategies and techniques for designing and building attractive, barrier-free living environments.

A Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist is a housing professional who:

•  has been trained to meet the housing needs of the 50+ population
•  can identify and/or make home modifications or changes that can help people continue living independently in their home longer
•  can find solutions to common barriers that can make a house unsafe or uncomfortable

The Remodeler’s Council of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in collaboration with the NAHB Research Center, the NAHB 50+ Housing Council and AARP developed the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) program to help consumers wanting to make their house a home for a lifetime, even if their needs and abilities change.
