Giovanna Huyke

Think it’s too late to become a good cook? Maybe not. Puerto Rico’s most acclaimed bilingual culinary expert, Giovanna Huyke, is also a cookbook author and TV celebrity chef. She personally believes that anyone can become a good cook. Her unique approach—adapting native ingredients and cooking methods to today’s busy lifestyles—has revolutionized Puerto Rican cuisine.

The engaging chef has authored five books and 20 recipe booklets, and is wrapping up her latest venture, Sabores de mi Isla, a book bringing to the kitchen a combination of Puerto Rican flavors from the past and present. Her work has appeared in Bon Appétit, Food and Wine, Shape en Espańol, The New York Times and other publications, and she writes a weekly column for El Nuevo Día and El Nuevo Herald.

The traveling ambassador of cuisine has visited New York, Chicago, Madrid, Hawaii and Tokyo, introducing her Puerto Rican culinary specialties to these nations. Yet her daily television program, La Cocina de Giovanna—Giovanna’s Kitchen—is the outlet for her passion: sharing recipes—complete with interpretation, discussing the origins of various dishes and providing detailed but easy to follow instructions for meal preparations.

Some of San Juan’s premier restaurants, like Amadeus, as well as Ali-Oli, have been showcases for Huyke’s expertise. Her personal establishments include Don Juan and Café Giovanna. She appears regularly at Univision’s Despierta America and was featured on Good Morning America, Regis and Kathy Lee and other programs.
