In 1982, Bob Cilman and Judith Sharpe organized a group of senior citizens living in Massachusetts into the music choir called Young@Heart. Original members included people who fought and lived through both World Wars, and a female vocalist sang until she was 100.
Today current performers in Young@Heart range in age from 73 to 89. Some have prior experience, others have never stepped onto a stage before turning 80. Now the group is profiled in the movie “Young@Heart” which is out on DVD. Watch the movie trailer above, and then listen to Alyne Ellis as she interviews members of the choristers.
They say those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. According to sociologist and bestselling author James Loewen, we should get ready for a rerun because history in this country is woefully misunderstood.
The problem, Loewen explains, is the textbook teaching of history rather than the “doing” of history.
Three decades of entertaining, public highs and lows, and of course her famous father, Alyne tells there's still much to discover about performer Natalie Cole.
Bill Newcott spotlights "Ninotchka," the 1939 movie in which three Soviets go to Paris to sell stolen jewels to raise money to buy tractors for the U.S.S.R. With that plot, it's no surprise the fim was advertised as "when Garbo laughs."
