AARP Willing to Host Forums, Will Reach Out to Candidates for Summer Schedules
News Release
June 4, 2008
AARP Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond released the following statement today after Senator McCain restated his commitment to un-moderated forums this summer with Senator Obama; Senator Obama has already expressed a willingness to participate:
“AARP has already offered to host these joint forums throughout the general election season at the locations and timing that work best for the candidates. Now that the busy primary season has concluded, AARP will move forward and reach out to the major campaigns to determine their summer schedules.
“We know how busy the candidates will be, and we want to make sure that there is time on their schedules to hold these important forums. Blurring the partisan lines that have divided us for so long will allow our members to focus on the issues that are important to them. Our hope is to have a full schedule announced by July 4, 2008.”
