AARP Global Network Expands International Reach

News Release

February 28, 2008

The AARP Global Network today announced that two leading organizations serving the 50+ population in their respective countries have joined the Network. The Canadian Association for the Fifty-Plus (CARP) and 50&Più Fenacom, an organization headquartered in Rome serving Italy’s aging population, will bring new perspectives and experiences to the AARP Global Network while the Network will help each of them better meet the needs of the dynamic populations they serve.

Founded by AARP – the nearly 40-million-member U.S.-based organization for people age 50 and over – the AARP Global Network is an association of national membership organizations working to serve the needs of the 50+ population in their countries.

“As AARP marks its 50th Anniversary, we are pleased to be forging stronger relationships with like-minded organizations as we work together to increase the international presence of the AARP Global Network,” said Bill Novelli, AARP Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the AARP Global Network Board of Managers. “AARP founded the Global Network in the spirit of collaboration, to form connections between thought leaders to improve the lives of fifty-plus populations beyond our borders by joining forces and expanding insight and expertise in policy and society. The addition of CARP and 50&Più Fenacom strengthens the Network through the gained expertise of leading international organizations working for the maturing population.”

Founded by AARP in 2006, the AARP Global Network is a unique venture, helping member organizations to better meet the needs and interests of the dynamic populations they serve in their respective countries. The Network’s Charter Member, Copenhagen-based DaneAge, joined the AARP Global Network in 2007.

“The AARP Global Network’s goal is to help its member organizations deliver positive social change in the countries where they exist,” said Ladan Manteghi, President of AARP Global Network. “Expanding our international reach furthers the Network’s mission to bring like-minded organizations together to harness their collective power, resources and experiences to more effectively bring about positive social change and increased member value for their respective constituencies. By leveraging the expertise of our members, the AARP Global Network supports organizations to be more effective in influencing policy, society, and the marketplace.”

The two new member organizations bring a wealth of experiences and opportunities to the AARP Global Network. CARP, a non-profit, non-partisan organization, has grown to 400,000 members since its founding in 1984. Its mission is to promote and protect the rights and quality of life of the aging Canadian population, which it does through working with the government on policy initiatives while negotiating group benefits and savings, among other activities. In Europe, Italy’s 50&Più Fenacom was founded more than 30 years ago to enrich the lives of citizens age 50+. With more than 400,000 members, 50&Più Fenacom holds annual events and provides a monthly publication that speaks to the interest of its aging population, with a readership of nearly 1 million.

The Network will continue to pursue membership in other countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America. All income generated by the AARP Global Network is reinvested within the Network to advance its mission of helping organizations better fulfill their social missions and serve their members.
