Richard Deutsch has headed PPI's communications efforts since 2007. Previously, he worked with many national nonprofit organizations to develop and implement communications programs, launch issue-based coalitions; and conduct media campaigns in print, broadcast and on the Web. He has been Senior Public Affairs Director at the Urban Institute, Director of Communications at the American Health Quality Association, Director of New Media at Fenton Communications, VP at GYMR Communications and a consultant to Burness Communications.
He also served as Business Editor, correspondent and producer for the Voice of America — reporting from Africa, Asia and Washington. He was a Washington correspondent for Monitor Radio, Development Business newspaper and Institutional Investor magazine and has published in the Christian Science Monitor, the New York Times and other papers. He has a BA in economics from Carleton College and an MA in International Affairs from Columbia University.
