Jana Lynott, AICP
Jana Lynott manages AARP's transportation research agenda and is responsible for developing the content of the Livable Communities chapter of the AARP Policy Book, adopted by the AARP Policy Council and Board. Her research covers a broad array of planning and policy issues, including street design for all users, the travel patterns of older adults, transit service needs and older driver safety. As a land use and transportation planner, she brings practical expertise to the research field.
Prior to her employment with AARP she was the Director of Transportation Planning for the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, where she designed and managed a groundbreaking study on the linkage between land use and the mobility of older adults. She also initiated and managed a travel instruction program to teach seniors how to use transit services in Northern Virginia.
She serves on the steering committees of the National Center on Senior Transportation and America Walks, and on her local Transportation Commission. Jana holds a Master of Planning in Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia and a B.A. in Global Studies from the University of Iowa.
