Gary Koenig, MA

Gary Koenig is Director of Economic Security in AARP's Public Policy Institute. The Economic Security group analyzes and develops policies related to the important issues affecting the financial security of the population age 50 and older, particularly as related to retirement. Key areas of research of the economic security group include Social Security, workplace retirement and pension plans, individual retirement savings, the well-being of older Americans and older workforce issues.

Mr. Koenig began working in the Public Policy Institute in September 2008 as a Senior Strategic Advisor. His own work focuses on Social Security, retirement savings, retirement accounts and tax policy. Prior to joining AARP, he was an economist for the Joint Committee on Taxation in the U.S. Congress, where he specialized in employer-provided pensions and retirement plans. He has an MA in Economics from Duke University.
