From Athol to Wareham, from the Berkshires to the North Shore, there are 34 local AARP Chapters here in Massachusetts. With group sizes ranging from as small as 30 to as large as 700, AARP Chapters play a vital role in improving the quality of life for local Bay Staters.

"Start off the new year by attending your local AARP Chapter meeting," said AARP Massachusetts State Director Deborah Banda. "AARP Chapters are a great way to forge new friendships, get involved, and have a real impact on your community."

Helping the Community

Community volunteerism and fellowship are at the heart of AARP Chapters, and these groups offer a range of activities including:

  • visiting nursing homes
  • mentoring and tutoring activities
  • working with the local police department on senior safety issues
  • helping seniors with mobility issues, and with shopping, cooking and cleaning
  • sponsoring driver safety classes

Some AARP Chapters also have fund-raising activities to help support local senior projects, provide scholarships for students, or donate money to worthy causes.

Making Life Better

AARP Chapters also participate in AARP Massachusetts advocacy and legislative efforts, to help improve the quality of life for older Bay State residents and their families. AARP Chapters are nongovernmental, nonpartisan, non-profit community service organizations.
