Could you benefit from participating in a clinical trial? Is there one that's right for you?
There are no easy answers to these questions, but it's a good idea to start by talking with your doctor and checking with patient advocacy groups that might have helpful information.
Here are some other resources:
- The National Institutes of Health sponsors the premier website on clinical trials, ClinicalTrials.gov . It currently lists more than 7,600 government and private studies across the nation.
- The National Cancer Institute offers information and a list of trials online at cancer.gov/clinicaltrials .
- CenterWatch , a Boston-based publishing company that focuses on the clinical trials industry, provides an extensive list of trials being conducted internationally.
While scores of websites offer to match patients with clinical trials, bear in mind that many of them receive fees from pharmaceutical companies for enrolling patients in specific trials and that they may not provide a comprehensive listing of available trials.
Carefully read the privacy policies of websites and avoid giving personal identifying information online. If a trial interests you, discuss it with your physician.
