Brain fitness and preventing memory loss are at the top of the list of concerns with people 50+, so AARP Utah has scheduled several Staying Sharp seminars with Dr. Kevin Duff of the University of Utah to help with these concerns.

These sessions have attracted thousands of people from around the state and continue to be one of AARP’s most popular programs. Dr. Duff has presented Staying Sharp forums for AARP Utah at several venues, from Senator Orrin Hatch’s Senior Day to a tele-town hall meeting that had over 11,000 Utahns connected at some point during the one-hour session.

A recent Utahn, Dr. Duff is an associate professor with the University’s Department of Neurology and is an expert on how to tell the difference between normal memory loss and signs of possible dementia, as well as how to deal with other illnesses that may affect a person’s ability to process information clearly.

Each session includes ample time for questions from audience members and resources to help with family members who may be experiencing early signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Find more information about Dr. Duff’s work on brain fitness online

In addition to Dr. Duff’s presentation, the Utah Securities Division will provide a presentation about financial fraud and how to prevent becoming a fraud victim. Keith Woodwell, Director of the Division, will provide participants with an overview of the warning signs of fraud, common scams in Utah, and how to file a complaint with the Division. Fraud tips and other information about the Division are available online.

We had wonderful participation in our Logan and Vernal Staying Sharp/Fraud Forums, and hope to have the same in Provo and Ogden.  Provo’s Staying Sharp presentation is scheduled for November 5. Register online, or call 1-877-926-8300.  For the presentation in Ogden on November 19, call the toll-free number listed above, or register online.

These will be the last Staying Sharp presentations of the year, but we schedule many more for 2012.  Thank you for your support and interest.
