AARPetPals Howl-o-ween Photo Contest
2. Am I eligible to participate? Subject to the additional restrictions below, the AARP "Pet Pals Howl-o-ween Photo Contest" (the "Contest") is open to residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are eighteen years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees of AARP ("Sponsor") and its affiliated companies, and advertising and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of, and any persons domiciled with, any such employees, are not eligible to enter or to win. The term "immediate family members" includes spouses, parents, grandparents, siblings, children, and grandchildren.
3. How do I enter? The Contest will begin at 8:00 a.m. (EST) on Oct. 13, 2008 and end at 4:59 p.m. (EST) on Oct. 24, 2008. To enter, upload a photo of your pet to the AARP.org Online Community (the "Community") in the designated online group. Include your name and your pet’s name and a brief description of the photo. The photograph you submit must be an original photograph for which you own the copyright or have secured the right to distribute without restriction. Photographs may only include pets and may not include images of identifiable people.
Limit one (1) entry per person, per AARP.org Profile, per e-mail address. No mail-in entries will be accepted; photos must be digital only. Sponsor will not be responsible for incomplete, lost, late, misdirected or unreadable entries or for failure to receive entries due to transmission failures or technical failures of any kind, including, without limitation, malfunctioning of any network, hardware or software, whether originating with sender or Sponsor. In the event of a dispute, all entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the owner of the e-mail account from which they were sent. For these purposes, an AARP.org Profile shall mean the natural person that registers on the AARP.org website (via https://login.aarp.org/community/register/index.bt) and an e-mail account holder shall mean the natural person assigned to such e-mail account by the Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with such e-mail account. All entries become property of Sponsor and none will be returned. Any questions regarding the number of entries submitted or the owner of a profile or an e-mail account shall be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, and Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entries by persons determined to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Contest. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not comply with these rules, that is alleged to infringe on any third party’s intellectual property rights, or that Sponsor deems obscene, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate for viewing by a general audience. By submitting a photograph in a Contest, you agree to be bound by all of the terms and conditions of these Official Rules, including the grant of rights set forth in Paragraph 5, below; if you do not agree with these terms and conditions, do not submit an entry. The odds of winning depend on the number of entries received.
4. How will winners be selected? Three judges from the AARP.org staff will select the winning photos and will post winners on www.aarp.org/pets. There will be prizes for First, Second, and Third place winners, as deemed by the judges.
5. How will AARP use the photo I submit? If your pet photo is selected as a winner, Sponsor will post your photograph to the www.aarp.org/pets page. The photo will also remain in the designate contest Community group. By submitting a photograph in this contest, you agree that AARP shall have the right to use the photo and winner’s identity to support and promote the Contest.
6. What could I win? Judges will award:
- One (1) First place winner: Canon PowerShot 10.0 MP Digital Camera and Polaroid PoGo Instant Mobile Printer; and
- Two (2) Second place winners: $50 gift card to PetSmart; and
- Three (3) Third place winners: $25 gift card to PetSmart.
7. When will winners be notified? The winner will be notified via the Community e-mail within seventy-two (72) hours after he or she is selected as a winner. Winners will be announced Oct. 31 in the designated Community group.
8. What other terms apply? Winners may waive their right to receive a prize. Prizes are nonassignable and nontransferable. No substitutions or cash equivalents allowed by winners. Prizes are subject to availability and Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value. Winners are solely responsible for reporting and payment of any taxes on prizes. Except where prohibited, participation in the Contest constitutes each contestant’s consent to the publication of his or her name, likeness, city and state of residence and biographical information in any media, including without limitation the Internet, for any commercial or promotional purpose, without limitation or further compensation. Prizes not won and claimed by an eligible winner in accordance with these Official Rules will not be awarded and will remain the property of Sponsor. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor and Contest judges designated by Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify persons found tampering with or otherwise abusing any aspect of this Contest as solely determined by Sponsor. In the event the Contest is compromised by a virus, non-authorized human intervention, tampering or other causes beyond the reasonable control of Sponsor which corrupts or impairs the administration, security, fairness or proper operation of the Contest, Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to suspend, modify or terminate the Contest. Should the Contest be terminated prior to the stated expiration date, Sponsor reserves the right to award prizes based on the entries received before the termination date. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any such provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable, these rules shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or unenforceable provision was not contained therein.
9. Who is the sponsor? The AARP "Pet Pals Howl-o-ween Photo Contest" is sponsored by AARP. The decisions of Sponsor and the Contest judges designated by Sponsor regarding the selection of winners and all other aspects of the Contest shall be final and binding in all respects. Sponsor will not be responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors in these Official Rules or in other materials relating to the Contest.
10. How can I request the winner’s name or a copy of these rules? For the names of the winners (available after Oct. 31, 2008) or a copy of these Official Rules send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to AARP "Pet Pals Howl-o-ween Photo Contest," AARP.org, 601 E Street, NW, Washington, DC 20049, Attn: Patti Shea.
