Changing health and loss of financial security can make independent living difficult. AARP Idaho and the University of Idaho Extension Service are providing free seminars that that will teach you all about long-term care options, their costs, and how to protect your financial security against the cost of long-term care. We urge you to attend these free seminars to learn about long-term care choices, control and financing.

You will learn that there are local resources that can help you live independently.

Staying independent and in our home is important to most of us. The regional Area Agencies on Aging provide various services to help people stay at home. You'll learn about these services and how to obtain them.

You will learn whether the purchase of Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI) is right for you.

LTCI is one way to pay for care. The program will help you decide if long-term care insurance is right for you. You'll learn what LTCI covers, what Medicare does and does not cover, and how to compare LTCI policies.

The seminar will give you the answers to these questions about Medicaid:
  • How much income can you have coming in?
  • Will Medicaid help you with medical costs?
  • What about your property?
  • Can you have savings?
  • Does home ownership reduce your eligibility?
  • Can you get help if you are not age 65 yet?
  • Does Medicaid cover nursing home care?
You will also learn the answers to these questions about Medicaid Recovery/Repayment:
  • When does Medicaid place liens on property and what property is covered? When is recovery made?
  • What are the exceptions and exclusions?
  • Can assets be gifted?
  • What are 'look-back' periods and the types of avoidable gifting?
  • What is the estate recovery process? Can heirs and family businesses be protected?
