One of every six North Carolinians cares for a family member or friend age 60 or older, so the estimates tell us. It's why providing resources for caregivers is a top priority for AARP North Carolina.

New Family Caregiving Guide

"Family Caregiving in North Carolina" is a new resource guide co-produced by AARP North Carolina. When the free guide was first offered in January 2003 on public television, callers swamped volunteers for days. So far, some ten thousand guides are in the hands of those caring for others. Demand for the comprehensive guide is expected to remain high. Now you can get a copy of the " Family Caregiving in North Carolina" online (in PDF format).

Working with Faith in Action

AARP is also working with Faith in Action, a national group headquartered in Winston-Salem. They connect volunteers of all faiths with persons who have long term health needs. In a community service project, AARP works with Faith in Action sites in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, Charlotte, Greensboro, Asheville, Ashe County and Greene County to form volunteer care teams to do "friendly visitor" services for people in assisted living facilities. If you might like to help out as an AARP/Faith in Action volunteer in any of these areas, give us a call at 919-508-0269 or e-mail ncaarp@aarp.org.
