In 2006, Stacy Keach was lauded for his performance as King Lear in a production The New York Times called "aggressively raunchy, [and] excruciatingly violent." That production, mounted at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago by award-winning director Bob Falls, was booked for a short run at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., in the summer of 2009.
As plans were going forward in the spring, Keach suffered a mild stroke. It took some time for doctors to determine there would be no impairments in the actor's speech or movement.
"Prime Time Radio" host Mike Cuthbert talks with Keach about his performance, the stroke, and whether or not he has told his doctors just how hard he works in his ultra-physical performance as the rash king.
