The AARP Foundation has more than 35 years of experience in helping employers find the workers they need. We match your workforce needs with the skills of our mature job seekers to create win/win opportunities for both.
Through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), we help financially eligible individuals 55 and over gain the skills necessary to re-enter or remain in the workforce. We do this by:
- Providing job seekers with temporary training and income, while facilitating their transition into employment in the community.
- Helping employers address their workforce shortages by becoming a resource for trained, qualified, mature workers.
How SCSEP Works with You
- On the local level, each SCSEP project forms referral partnerships with employers in the community. The SCSEP Project Director gains an understanding of employer's job opportunities, training requirements, application procedures and work environment, and then refers the most suitable job seekers to meet those needs. All you need to do is contact your local SCSEP site.
- On the regional or national level, the AARP Foundation helps with your staffing needs by coordinating with SCSEP offices located in your areas of greatest need. We will work with you to target geographical areas for hiring, and to develop a communication plan which includes all personnel who are involved in the partnership. To explore how SCSEP can assist with your staffing needs on a regional or national level, call the SCSEP national office at 202-434-2020.
Trial Employment Option
SCSEP also offers a no-cost trial employment option through our On the Job Experience (OJE) program. With OJE, we match you with qualified job candidates and pay their wages and workers compensation for an agreed-upon training period—usually two weeks. We pay them directly, according to the salary you are offering for the position.
Under OJE, it is understood that you will hire our candidates who successfully complete their training period. If you are not satisfied with the applicant during the training period, simply call us. In either case, you do not have to pay the applicant or SCSEP anything.
The paperwork is simple. You complete a brief agreement form and job description, and send us the candidate's time sheets during the OJE period.
This free program benefits everyone. It offers you a chance to observe the worker on the job. And our SCSEP participants get a chance to prove what they can do. If you are interested in the OJE program, contact the Project Director at a SCSEP program in your area.
