Companies that apply for the AARP Best Employers for Workers Over 50 award may be additionally recognized as a recipient of an AARP Bernard E. Nash Award for Innovation. This annual award recognizes employers that successfully implement innovative age-neutral employment policies or practices for workers over 50 in one of the following areas:
- flexible work options,
- recruitment,
- retiree work options,
- training and development.

About Bernard E. Nash
Bernard E. Nash was Executive Director of AARP from 1969 to 1975. During that time, he developed more than 10 programs including the AARP Foundation-sponsored Tax-Aide and the AARP Driver Safety program. In honor of AARP's founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, Bernard established both the Ethel Percy Andrus Gerontology Center at the University of Southern California and the AARP Andrus Foundation. He also conceived and organized the first Foster Grandparent Programs, which are now all over the world.
Bernie embodies what entrepreneurship is all about – commitment to excellence, creativity, and innovation. To honor his contributions AARP established this award.
