Connecting Mature Workers with Skills, Jobs, and Communities

WorkSearch provides direct services to mature adults seeking employment through:

  • AARP Foundation Work Search Assessment System
  • AARP Foundation Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)

Work Search Assessment System
The Work Search Assessment System provides community-level job and career information and services to individuals who are seeking to remain in, or re-enter the workforce. Work Search is a customized system that provides a variety of services at no cost to the individual, including:

  • Interest and ability inventories
  • Skills assessments
  • Online courses and study guides for those wishing to increase their skill level
  • Tracking of progress and retention of test scores Job matches
  • Unlimited access to Work Search to continue training, reassess skills, or edit or add interests

Our goals are to:

  • Provide all mature workers with an informed choice regarding their employment interests and options
  • Assist people with pursuing their employment goals
  • Steer older adults at or below the median income toward financial security

Currently, the Work Search Assessment System is available to the public through any one of the 73 SCSEP sites around the country. At these certified Work Search sites, job seekers are linked with Information Navigators who will lead them through the Work Search process.

Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP): If during the intake interview a Work Search participant is deemed eligible, they can enroll in the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). If not, they will be able to continue to take advantage of the services offered by the Work Search Assessment System.

AARP Foundation SCSEP is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor with support from AARP and the AARP Foundation, and provides comprehensive training and support to individuals that will help them:

  • Obtain new job knowledge
  • Enhance their skills
  • Gain a competitive edge in today's job market

To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • Fifty-five years or older
  • Financially qualified
  • Interested in bettering their current employment circumstances

SCSEP participants are placed in temporary assignments with nonprofit community organizations, or with federal, state, county or city organizations, where they have an opportunity to sharpen and develop skills while searching for a permanent job.

Whether enrolled in the AARP SCSEP or not, all Work Search participants will have full access to the Work Search Assessment System, which was created by the National Business Services Alliance (NBSA). NBSA collaborates with universities, commercial and non-profit organizations, government agencies and employers to create workforce solutions that fundamentally improve the U.S. Economic development across diverse populations, by developing and certifying crucial workplace skills.
