Sandra Cisneros is an insightful writer best known for The House on Mango Street, an acclaimed novel about a young girl growing up in Chicago. The Chicago-born Cisneros has authored a second novel, Caramelo, as well as short stories, poetry collections and children’s books. Her new book, Have You Seen Marie?, an illustrated book for adults, will be published in Fall 2012.
Her awards include two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships for both fiction and poetry, the Lannan Literary Award, the American Book Award, the Texas Medal of the Arts and a MacArthur Fellowship. She has founded Macondo and other foundations that serve creative writers and their communities.
Cisneros resides in San Antonio, Texas, where she is writer in residence at Our Lady of the Lake University.
